Born in Assiut on 1 july 1917, Laila Doss completed her main education in prestigious schools in Cairo before dedicating her life to the improvement of the general health of women. An entrepreneur in the field of health, she established the Women’s Organization for Health Improvement. She received her BA and MA degrees in English Literature from the American University in Cairo in 1981, and since then has been a key public contributor to the social life of Egyptian women.
The Laila Doss collection contains the private papers of eminent social entrepreneur Laila Doss, including personal photos, and photos of friends and colleagues over her lifetime. For the rare and valuable record offered by these private papers, the Laila Doss collection represents a valuable and cherished achievement in WMF’s mission to preserve national memory and document social history.
