WMF at the 54th commission on the Status of Women (CSW)

From the 1st to the 8th of March the WMF attended the 54th commission on the Status of Women (CSW) held at the United Nations. This year's topic was the 15-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995) and the outcomes of the twenty-third special session of the General Assembly (2000).
 
The WMF took part in two events.
On the 4th of March, WMF participated in a Department of Public Information/Non-Governmental Organizations (DPI/NGO) UN briefing session at the United Nations.  The title of the session was" Equal Rights Equal Opportunities – Progress for All: Arab Women 15 Years after Beijing”, WMFs presentation was delivered by Dr. Mounira Soliman.
 
On the 5th of March, the WMF held a panel in the CSW parallel events entitled Women's History in an Activist Agenda: Reclaiming Memory. The panelist discussed re-reading and re-writing history and popular culture from a feminist and alternative standpoint as a tool for women's rights activism. Dr. Afaf Mahfouz, Dr. Hoda El Saadi, Dr. Mounira Soliman, Dr. Sahar Sobhi, and Ms May El Sallab participated in the panel. 
 
Since 2009, the WMF has been in consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (EcoSoc).
