Soft launch of the Women and Memory Library and Documentation Centre
On the 3rd of February 2010, the Women and Memory Forum held a ceremony for the soft launch of the Women and Memory Library and Documentation Centre, which houses a unique collection of grey literature on women and gender in Arabic, rare books and journals published in the Arab world, and Arab women's private collections.
The soft launch took place at the Supreme Council of Culture under the auspices of Professor Emad Abu Ghazi, its secretary general.
After a brief introduction on the project by Dr Omaima Abou Bakr, director and board member of the WMF, Dr Heba Barakat project consultant, gave an overview of WMLDC, its database, and the work process to build a fully automated library cataloguing system.
The soft launch was also an opportunity to introduce the Widad Mitry private collection, which includes the personal memoirs, photographs, notes, correspondences, newspaper clippings and private papers of Widad Mitri, renowned Egyptian pioneer and women's rights defender.
The soft-launch was attended by university professors, feminist, NGO activists, concerned researchers, in addition to Widad Mitris daughter Dr Reem Saad.
