May El Sallab obtained her MA in Gender and Development from the Institute of Development Studies at University of Sussex (Brighton, UK) in 2007, where her dissertation focused on 'Unregistered Customary ('Urfi) Marriages in Egypt'. She holds a BA in Political Sciences from the American University in Cairo.

Before joining WMF in 2009 as a program officer, May worked in the field of women's rights and development.
