Workshop of Arab Women Between Religious Belief and Social Justice, 16-17 May 2005
News
This workshop was held by the WMF in cooperation with the Heinrich Böll Foundation in Germany.  Activists and researchers from Egypt and abroad participated with the aim of defining a feminine religious discourse suitable for women wishing to express a religious identity and adopt a religious value reference. In turn, this would enable a unification of Arab women (Christians and Muslims) in the face of similar problems. Several targets were set including the formulation of a religious perspective that departs from discrimination against women and the production of a liberating discourse built on equality. Added to this were the targets of increasing awareness regarding issues of religious discourse connected to women, and devising strategies for communicating with religious establishments and figures to convince them with the problems faced by women in search of practical ways of tackling them.
