Summary

Aswat wa-Asdaa' (Voices and Echoes) is part of the Women’s Voices series through which the WMF aims to construct an archive for the voices of women who played a significant role in public life in the early twentieth century. The book is an attempt to resist the marginalisation of women in history through rereading   and acknowledging their contributions. This is carried out through the documentation of the works and lives of women pioneers in various fields to highlight their valuable roles and experiences. Eight pioneering women are presented here: Anisa Hifni, Durriuua Zaki, Zaynab 'Izzat, Sawsan Gereis, Fadila Tawfiq, Layla Barakat, Nazli Qabil and Ni'mat Abul-Su'ud. Each entry contains a short biography, a summary of works and achievements and excerpts from interviews.
