†ºThe storytelling is acquiring more performative dimensions due to the professional input of the theater director Caroleen Khalil. This became clear during the storytelling held at Beit El-Harrawi in Al-Azhar district in Cairo on 8 - 9 November 2001, attracting a large and diverse audience. The storytelling aims at orally disseminating the stories written during the “Gender-Sensitive Tales and Feminist Stories” workshops held at WMF since 1998, re/writing tales from the Arabian Nights as well as Egyptian folk tales and children’s stories. The workshop together with the storytelling events aim at disseminating feminist texts in an attempt to introduce gender awareness into popular culture.
