- The Women Studies Program at Birzeit University (Palestine) organized a workshop on Monday 8/ 12/ 1997 on “Strategies for Job Creation for Palestinian Women”. The Program also participated in a workshop organised by the Ministry of Labour on “Strategies for Job Creation”.
- Islah Jad, lecturer at the Women Studies Program at Birzeit University, participated in a workshop organised by ILO (International Labour Organization) in Torino (Italy) on “Promoting Working Women’s Rights” in the period from 24/ 11 to 8/ 12/ 1997.
Islah Jad is currently involved in a study on “Gender and Citizenship”. She is also part of a group conducting a study on “Gender and Poverty” dealing with social affairs in the context of the National Committee to alleviate poverty in the Palestinian society. Islah Jad is moreover part of a group of researchers starting in the spring of 1998 a study on the “Palestinian Household: Internal Dynamics and Distribution of Power”. Her latest study on “Women in Politics: Case of Palestine” is under publication.
- Rema Hammami, lecturer at the Women Studies Program at Birzeit University, has recently published a paper on “Labor and Economy”. She will also go to the USA. as a visiting scholar at New York University, to give a series of lectures in the Women and Area Studies Program in the period 1/ 2 – 12/ 2/ 1998.
