Mona Zulficar obtained a B.Sc. in Economics and Political Science in 1969 from Cairo University and an LL.B. from Mansoura University in 1980. She is partner and Chair of the Executive Committee at Shalakany Law Office since 2006. Mona Zulficar has played as a key role in drafting new legislation and developing existing economic legislation. She has also been an active advocate for human rights and women”s rights, in Egypt and internationally, since the early 1980’s. She has been elected member and Vice Chair of the UN Human Rights Council and she is also a member of the National Council for Human Rights in Egypt. During the last few years, she has been working on a campaign for a new Family Law that would modernize the legal environment, take stock of the social changes in women’s status during the last century and provide for a more open and liberal vision of the future.
