The Women and Memory Library and Documentation Center (WMLDC) is a resource center for gender studies in Egypt and Arab world that makes available
resources and programs to enable researchers and students to access materials in the field of gender studies.
The primary goal of the WMLDC is facilitating the production and dissemination of knowledge on gender in the Arab world through strengthening and advancing research and access to resources.
The WMLDC houses a specialized collection which includes the following:

Grey literature produced in and about the Arab world (publications and material of limited circulation not readily available via conventional venues).

Rare books and journals published in the Arab World.

Private papers relevant to women and gender studies.
The WMLDC and the Egyptian Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Egypt (EUL) have collaborated to build a fully automated library cataloguing system. This system aims to provide scholars and researchers with optimum interactive information services to fulfill their diverse academic needs.

This is governed by international guidelines and standards made available through Future Library System Development, which is a multilingual international standard system that enables the use of both English and Arabic. Using the WMLDC enables access to a unique collection of grey literature on women and gender in Arabic, as well as rare books and journals published in the Arab world, and Arab women's private collections. Users will also have access to over 15 public universities in Egypt and more than 22,000 e-journals (bibliographic entries and full-text) covering various fields of interest. This will enable scholars and researchers to remain in touch with the latest developments in the field of women and gender studies.

Availability of library staff five days a week to assist users in their search activities

Free in-situ wireless access to the Internet, and computers and workstations to facilitate the research process

Scanning and printing facilities for a minimal fee, provided that your request complies with international laws and regulations of IPR and copyrights

Training researchers in the use of the EUL system

The WMLDC electronic catalogue includes abstracts in English and Arabic, as well as the table of contents for all items in the collection. This is accessible through the MARK field, which includes all available information on publications.

The WMLDC staff welcomes photocopying and scanning requests for articles and sections of articles -sent via email- for a minimal fee, provided that your request complies with international laws and regulations of IPR and copyrights.

The WMLDC staff welcomes suggestions for acquiring material related to its field of interest; these suggestions can be sent by email.

Users will be updated on the latest developments in the field.

The collection at the WMLDC is available for internal use only and not for loan.
How to become a member

Fill in the membership application form available at the library and downloadable via our website.

Provide a copy of your valid ID card. For non-Egyptians, provide a copy of your passport.

Membership is currently free of charge.
WMLDC rules and guidelines

Library opening hours: daily from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (closed Fridays and Saturdays).

Membership cards should be produced upon request.

Smoking is not allowed in the library.

Library holdings, equipment and furniture should be used appropriately. This also applies to books, audio-video and multimedia, and computer equipment.

Rules pertaining to the use of the Internet should be followed, and computer equipment should be used for their intended purposes.

Please request the assistance of the librarian in charge when using flash memory discs and CDs to avoid virus transfer or harm to the system.

Place any complaints in the complaints and suggestions box available at the front desk.

Attempting to leave the library with any of its holdings is forbidden and may result in cancellation of library membership.
